Welcome to Watersport Vereniging Loowaard
If you are looking for a place to enjoy water sports and boating in the Netherlands, then Watersport Vereniging Loowaard is something to consider. Located in the beautiful municipality of Duiven, near Loo, also known as Loowaard, this association has had a strong presence in a sand extraction area since 1970. In 1980, members of the association took over the management of a small marina at this location.
The marina
The marina offers 27 berths for members. Unoccupied moorings are available for passers-by, as described below. It is important to note that the marina is only accessible by water, on foot or by bicycle. Access by car is restricted to members of the association (with a gate). Although there is a ramp, it is only suitable for maintenance of the jetties and not for launching boats. For this service, boat owners can go to Jachthaven de Bijland or Peters Maritiem across the river.
Location and access
Seen from the water, the marina is located on the eastern bank of the Pannerdens Canal (km. 874.1). This canal connects the Bijlands Canal and the Waal on the south side, with the junction of the Lower Rhine and Gelderse IJssel on the north side. Note that the access road to the port is only accessible through a locked gate. Members have a key to the access gate, while other stakeholders such as police, municipality and owners also have access through this gate. During high tides, the access road may be flooded, causing temporary inaccessibility.
Passers-by Welcome!
Passers-by are warmly welcomed at WSV Loowaard. Although the number of berths is limited due to their status as a small water sports club, additional berths are often available during holiday periods as their members are often "out and about" with their boats themselves. If you want to know if there is a spot available, you can contact their harbour master. He can check whether there are still free moorings.
Facilities
It should be noted that facilities at the marina are limited. There is no drinking water available (running water is), no sanitary facilities and no waste container. However, electricity is available on the jetties. On the plus side, the marina is in a beautiful Natura 2000 area, where you can enjoy cycling and hiking in the immediate surroundings. There are also some historical places nearby to explore, such as Doornenburg, where the famous episodes of Floris were filmed, Fort Pannerden and other historical locations that played a role in World War II.
Membership and Rates
If you are considering becoming a member of Watersport Vereniging Loowaard, you should know that their association aims to promote and practice water sports. Due to their limited capacity, they operate a waiting list. The first step to get on the waiting list is to fill in the registration form, which is available at the bottom of their website.
After registration, you will be invited for an introductory interview with the admissions committee. During this interview, you will be informed about the association and it will be assessed whether you will be admitted as a new member.
